Fluency Disorders and Stuttering

Fluency disorders involve the rate and flow of speech. The main fluency disorders are:

  •  Stuttering:

    • Syllable repetitions (vi-vi-vi-video)
    • Sound repetitions (I g-g-g-got it)

    • Sound prolongations (wwwwwait)

    • Sound blocks (starts word no sound comes out)

    • Non-speech behaviours (facial tension, blinks)

  • Cluttering:
    • Rapid speech
    • Breakdown in fluency

    • Articulation errors

    • Unaware that speech is difficult to understand
